RDC Beta Users: Beta2 is Expiring, But Don’t Panic
Mar 31, 2008 8:12 AM
If you have been using Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac public beta2, you will be greeted by a message when you launch the beta today.
This simply means that the beta2 testing period has ended. We do this because the RDC public beta2 was released last October and has been out there for 5 months. As indicated on the dialog, you can continue using beta by dismissing the message dialog. Otherwise, the beta2 build you have stays fully functional...

Super Suite Deal – Shipped! (mostly - read for update)

Super Suite Deal Update
I didn’t want to post an update until I had some real answers. While most people received their upgrades by March 14th as I previously promised, there are still some of you that haven’t, and we’ve been working to track down exactly what the issues are. My apologies for not foreseeing this and for my miscommunication about *everybody* getting their upgrade by March 14th – that obviously didn’t turn out to be the case. Here is the scoop.

What's New on Mactopia: Tell Us What You Think
Feb 22, 2008 8:20 AM
If you’re a regular reader of the blog, or you’ve spent any time on the Mactopia site, you may have noticed some changes recently. I’m the Site Manager for the Mactopia website, and wanted to spend a little time on the blog telling you what we’ve been up to lately. Most obviously, we moved the blog here onto the Mactopia site from its former home on MSDN, and since we launched Office 2008 we’ve noticed some interesting things happening in the comments. Many of you have technical questions, or are asking for help. And others have some remarkably strong opinions about what we should do in future versions of Office for Mac...

Office 2008 Update
Feb 21, 2008 3:09 PM
It’s been a month now since the worldwide launch of Office 2008 for Mac began at Macworld in January, and the team has been visibly pumped up about having Office 2008 out in the hands of customers and seeing the reactions. Post-launch, we’re hard at work monitoring issues in the wild and combing through customer feedback from Mactopia, newsgroups, etc. As with any software release, our commitment is to continuous improvement, and we are currently finishing up the first Office 2008 update, 12.0.1, which contains fixes for high-priority issues we’ve identified. We’re targeting a March 11th, 2008 release date, which will automatically be available via Microsoft Auto Update, and as a download from Mactopia at: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx.
The team is mobilized to get Office 2008 updates out as soon as possible; as a result we are pushing back the release of the final Open XML File Format Converter Update to Office 2004 for Mac. The final converter was previously scheduled for delivery 6-8 weeks after U.S...

Macworld: A Day At The Office
Feb 1, 2008 8:34 AM
On Monday, January 14, MacBU held a sold-out, day-long session at Macworld called “A Day At The Office” where we took the wraps off Office 2008. The goal was to show the breadth of Office’s capabilities and give customers deep, technical information about how Office 2008 programs and features work. We had a total of nine sessions, each led by a representative member of our Program Management team or an industry expert. Our session topics included:
An overview of the suite, and a tour of our new user interface;
Word 2008;
Excel 2008;
PowerPoint 2008;
Entourage 2008;
Benefits and capabilities of our new Office Art engine;
How to work with Office in corporate environments;
Automating Office with AppleScript and Automator;
A ‘day in the life’ of a typical small-business customer, and how they use all of Office 2008 to save time and keep focused.
Obviously, these topics are of great interest to many of our customers and users. We are pleased to announce that these sessions were videotaped, and are now available through Mac Mojo.
Below, you’ll find a list of the sessions – their titles, the name of the presenter, a high-level list of what was discussed, and a link to the video file...

Re: Can we import pdf vector-based graphics?
Jan 29, 2008 10:00 AM
Office 2008 for Mac imports and renders PDF images in all their native glory, vector-based or otherwise. This level of support is new, so for Windows Office or earlier versions of Mac Office, we save a PNG representation of each PDF image side-by-side with that PDF image. If the document, spreadsheet, or presentation is opened in Windows Office or an earlier version of Mac Office, then the PNG is rendered. If the file is opened in Office 2008 for Mac, we render the native PDF.
